  • Matt began his apprenticeship at a very young age through high school co-ops. His perseverance and dedication paid off when he graduated high school with enough apprenticeship hours to complete his first year of trade school. Following in his father’s footsteps, he attended George Brown to complete his Refrigeration Mechanics Apprenticeship. Matt has always possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and a natural mechanic ability, so it was no surprise when he came on title as a full partner in 2015. Matt had a vision of expanding the business. He has without a doubt accomplished this goal. DeGroot Refrigeration now offers commercial, industrial & agricultural refrigeration hvac services, and heating and cooling services to a vast range of customers.

  • After completing a 5 year apprenticeship in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at George Brown College, Frank began deGroot Refrigeration in 1989. He spent his early days canvassing Orillia small businesses trying to build his clientele. Little by little, the business grew from 1 client to 5 and on to the successful venture it has become. Frank's goal has always been to turn the business over to his son Matt so he can retire and spend his days fishing and enjoying his grandchildren.

  • Jake began his HVAC journey in 2017 while he enrolled and attended Georgian College in the Residential Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning program. Before Jake graduated in 2019, his ambition and dedication to this field landed him a full time job with a residential HVAC company. After 6 years of continuous training and working in the field, Jake decided to venture off and create his own residential HVAC company, Black River Heating & Cooling. Jake is a licensed G2 Gas Fitter and obtains his 308R Sheet Metal Installer. Jake specializes in fire places, furnaces, air conditioners, split types, custom sheet metal ductwork, radiant floor heating and more. Black River Heating & Cooling is very excited to partner with DeGroot Refrigeration to offer the best services they can to all of their customers!

  • Greg is a fully licensed sheet metal worker with 12 years of experience. After completing his 5 year apprenticeship at the Oakville school of sheet metal, he has been working as a journeyman leading commercial sheet metal jobs in downtown Toronto. Greg excels in measuring, fabricating and installing both commercial and residential sheet metal. He has experience working on large commercial jobs such as hospitals, schools and restaurants. He recently joined the DeGroot Refrigeration team and is looking forward to gaining experience in the refrigeration and gas business.

  • Meet the face behind the voice. Nicole is Frank's eldest daughter and Matt’s big sister. She is DeGroot Refrigeration's newest employee bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing and business management. We are delighted to have Nicole on board as our scheduler and Social Media guru.

  • Ewan just recently completed high school having done a co-op placement in HVAC manufacturing. Ewan enjoys all sports, particularly hockey and has a special interest in almost anything to do with cars. He would like to pursue an apprenticeship and hopefully a long career in HVAC and refrigeration.
